A canopy

is a structure that solves a very important task: it protects you or your property from the elements. A barbecue area, your car, goods for sale, raw materials for processing — all of this will be reliably sheltered under a canopy from rain, snow, hail or scorching sun.

A canopy can be either a free-standing structure or a cantilevered one (where part of the canopy is fixed to the main building and part has its own support). Depending on the task, the roof is made mono-pitch or gable, flat, semicircular with various radii, or hipped with complex geometry. Consulting a designer is essential when making this decision, since the load calculation determines the steel grade and structure type. Snow and wind loads, and whether supports will be concreted or anchored, must be taken into account. The choice of roofing material also depends on this — for example, profiled steel sheeting allows wider spans than tiles but narrower than polycarbonate.
